Last Thursday I drove south to Morris, about half an hour from our home. Thunderstorms were in the area but I managed to arrive and unload between showers.
There was a full house by the time the meeting started at the Pieces From the Heart Quilt Guild.
We were in a long narrow room.
I looked to the left,I looked to the center, and then I looked to the right!Time to get to some Lessons Learned While Quilting…
Did you notice the clock, clearly visible on the wall? I did. It kept me on track and I didn’t spot anyone asleep 🙂
We had a break and then the Show and Tell started. There was a lot of it. I wasn’t able to get pictures of everything. Some people were too quick, some just never pointed their quilts in my direction, but here are some of the fabulous quilts on display.
A pretty bargello quilt.A precisely pieced small quilt in reproduction prints.A teddy bear for a special baby.A pastel bargello baby quilt.I love this pink Tula pink wide back. (I used it in grey for the Which Way’s Up? quilt in my book.)The cats on the front certainly made for a bright and cheerful quilt.A fall themed jelly roll throw.A mini selvedge star.A modern quilt…with the extra blocks on the back!I don’t usually have favorites but this next one has to be the star of the evening.
It was made from woolen uniform great coats from the United States Marine Academy that belonged to a graduate of the class of 1978… the Proud and Great. I didn’t feel it but we were told it is very heavy and I believe it.
It was stunning!Back to something smaller.
This quilter’s paper pieced star matched her outfit. She told me afterwards that green is her favorite color!Another throw in the shades of fall.Quilts made from left overs for donation.
One,Two,Three.Little house blocks in a sophisticated muted palette, and I’ll finish with a t-shirt quilt for a lucky grandson. They are a lovely group of quilters down in Morris. It was my second visit to their guild this year. I vended at their show back in the spring…
I wasn’t home quite so late on Thursday and I was home on Friday but Saturday I set off bright and early to return to the Northern Lake County Quilters Guild in Antioch for an English paper piecing extravaganza…
It was just a small select group and people came and went a bit but it was a fun day with (almost) everyone sitting around the one group of tables. Each student got a spool of 100 weight Invisafil from Wonderfil thread in their kit to try for their whipstitch and appliqué. It was new to most of them and I have to say it was a success. One member had her sister visiting from Kansas. It’s always fun to have sisters in class together!I had a good day but I was so tired when I got home. Steve was up in Chippewa Falls. I was asleep by 8.30!
And now it’s Wednesday already. We are heading to the airport tonight for our ten day 2017 UK extravaganza. We are going to stop in Dublin for the day on the way over. It’s going to be a good time.
There will be quilts. I’ll be at Festival of Quilts in Birmingham on Friday and Saturday, and then next week on Thursday and Friday I’ll be teaching two classes in Suffolk for Dream On. There are still a few spots if you are in the area… details here.
The washing machine is on, I’ve got some packing to do…
Very nice display of quilts. I love seeing the variety that you post!! Such inspiration at every turn.
