I finally managed to get back to my Gum Blossoms quilt today and it’s done… the binding is basted at the moment… I will handstitch it down tonight while watching “So You Think You Can Dance”. The edges had stretched a little during quilting so I put the binding on in four measured pieces (a rarity for me) and I think it worked. No wavy edges and a reasonably square quilt. Of course I have pictures…
This is the finished quilt,
and here are a couple of closeups of the gum blossoms and quilting.
The gum blossoms were fun to thread paint with rayon thread. I hope the leaves show up well enough on the background strata to make a sufficiently bold statement. It’s a little mors subtle than the original. I’m not generally known for subtlety so perhaps that’s not a bad thing?
Tomorrow I’m going to the store to book next quarter’s classes. I think this one will be on the list. With making the strata and then the no fuse raw edge machine applique and the thread painting there are a few techniques worth learning.
nice! i like the gum blossoms.
Looks great – can’t wait to see it in person!!
