What a fun afternoon! The FabricOrigami Small Treasures class went very well and we made lots of the little boxes in the three designs on the pattern and in all manner of colors…
People had brought a wide variety of fabrics to use, not just the usual batiks. This made for some interesting research conclusions…
We found that some fabrics needed more of the stiffening medium than others. We decided that the looser weave ones would really benefit from two applications of Plaid Stiffy, allowing the fabric to dry between each application. Trying the pattern in paper first helped a lot. It is harder to make the creases in the fabric. The bone folder is essential to make good sharp folds and corners.
I certainly came away from the class inspired to try different fabrics next time! We’ll be making stars in October…
