More hand work.

I’ve got a list and I’m working my way through it.

It’s a good list… lots of little projects that I need to get finished.

I’ve been wanting to do an embroidery sampler for when I’m just teaching basic hand embroidery. I’m not too keen on straight lines of stitching so I decided to do circles and a couple of wavy lines.

Done!!

A tone on tone 8 weight yellow Valdani thread on purple, machine quilting in 50 weight Aurifil cotton.

I took a couple of close up shots.

From left to right here’s chain stitch, fly stitch, herringbone, french knots, wrapped backstitch, french knots, buttonhole, running stitch and more chain stitch…

This view shows some stem stitch and cross stitch in the foreground.

The piece is about nine inches square so that’s a lot of stitches and quilting in a small space.

I’m going to be sending it off to the Melon Patch Quilters in Muscatine, Iowa later in the week ready for my visit in May. The ladies there also want to learn some bold big stitch hand quilting so I’ve made a sample for that too. This one is 15″ square, fabrics from Free Spirit.

I used Quilters Dream Request cotton batting and a variety of 12 weight threads from Coats and Clark, Aurifil and Valdani so that we can compare the results.

Two more items checked off!

Do you like the daffodils? They’re finally blooming in the yard and we have thunderstorms forecast. It happens every year so I decided this year I would cut at least some of them before they get flattened into the ground. Maybe now the thunderstorms will pass us by?
