More fun in Little Rock!

It felt so good to be able to get up slowly on Sunday morning and take my time packing my bags before we checked out of our room. We had plans for the day but being in a hurry did not feature anywhere in them…

First up was brunch at the Capital Hotel, just across the street from the Marriot and the  convention center.

The foyer gave us a good indication of what was awaiting us in the One Eleven dining room.

I was a very well behaved girl and ate all my quiche and mixed greens …but I still had room for  a small dessert! I chose the semifreddo with chocolate streusel. It went very well with the remains of my Mimosa.

Yum, yum!

Well satisfied we ventured back outside. The street car was approaching but we weren’t sure where they go or how they work so we let it pass.

Of course now I have read up on them I wish we had given it a try… next time, perhaps?

Back on the other side of the street we decided to wait in the shade for the Old State House Museum to open. Can you can see the reflection in the windows of the Marriot?

Construction of the original State Capital building started in 1833. It has had a checkered history but is in fine condition now.

Alongside the permanent exhibits there were some interesting rotating ones such as Different Spokes, showing the history of the bicycle. Here’s a picture of Bycykel 1, City Bike One, a present from the city of Copenhagen to President Clinton when he visited Denmark in 1997. He rode it in the White House!

From the sublime to the ridiculous the museum was also playing host to Lights! Cameras! Arkansas! I had to get a picture of the original Creature from the Black Lagoon.

We were in town for the quilt show and there was one in display in the museum, courtesy of the Arkansas Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Various Arkansas organizations had contributed at different times to extensive renovation projects. We enjoyed the restored fountains on the way out. The Stella Boyle Smith Trust is responsible for its present immaculate condition.

So much culture! Just time to collect our bags and take the shuttle back to the airport for our flight home.
So long Little Rock. I hope I’ll be able to visit again soon.
