The Queen of Hexies herself, editor of Hexie Love, author of Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts and More Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts, Julia Wood is our Day Six!
I first met Julia last year on the set of Quilting Arts TV where we were both taping segments for series 1300. Julia was demonstrating a very traditional way of making hexagons from circles of fabric. Her segment project sheet Unconventional Hexagons has received the most views and most downloads in the whole history of QATV… a very traditional but previously only-known-to-a-few technique!
We met up again in Chicago at Festival this summer and then the planet aligned and we were able to share a room when we were both teachers at AQS Quilt Week – Chattanooga. Julia drove up from Alabama with a lot of luggage and a beautiful bunch of bananas ready for our breakfasts!
Here’s Julia standing next to the her classroom sign…
We had a lot of fun together. I brought my little hexagon quilts with me and we had a photo shoot in the hotel lobby! (Yes, Julia is standing on the seats…)
As the author of her two AQS books Julia did a book signing on the show floor. She is such a warm and friendly lady!
I learnt a few good southern phrases in our time together… They do come in handy from time to time.
I usually use my walking foot to quilt my hexagon quilts so I am delighted that Julia is part of my blog hop. You can read what she has to say at her blog today.
Details of all the blogs on my hop are listed below. Don’t forget I am giving copy of my DVD to at least one lucky reader who has made a comment on my blog over the course of the blog hop. You have until the end of Christmas Day to leave your thoughts!

I have really enjoyed the blog hop and reading new blogs, I may not have found them otherwise I will be adding to my blog reading list
I have just started using my walking foot for straight line quilting. Looking forward to trying spirals in the future. I always enjoying the blog hop and reading what others are doing. Thanks for the chance.
Julia has been a friend for about 10-12 years. She is a special lady. I love her “Hexie” technique.
This is so exciting! Are a new quilter I am so thankful to have found you. I’m inspired to challenge myself and try new techniques. Thanks ever-so-much!
Love learning new designs.
You have delightful and talented friends. Your video sounds like a good addition to any library.
Have used my walking foot for straight quilting but am anxious to try other types of quilting with it. Will return to this blog again and again
I really like learning new techniques and am especially anxious to learn about spirals. Your video would be a great addition to my collection.
I’ve been following Julia’s blog for almost a year now and she has no pictures of herself on her blog. It is nice to put a face to the name. I love her work and how she makes her hexies. Your video would really come handy in my house. Thanks.
Hexies!!! you’re calling my name.
Like another commenter said…it’s nice to put a face to the name. Thanks for posting pics of Julia.
I very much enjoy the blog hop and am very interested in your dvd about walking foot quilting. I would love to win it :-).
This DVD looks like it would be very helpful to us who like to quilt on our sewing machines, including the tip about quilting in the ditch.
Bananas and Blue bangs…Julia sounds like a fun lady! I was intrigued that she mentioned your many hints on needles and threads and also a trick for quilting in the ditch. Every day just gets better and better. I know from all the rave reviews that your DVD is something very special.
Your video looks like such a valuable addition to my machine quilting tool kit and having a video to be able to review as needed is most helpful. Thanks for a giveaway
I am currently working on two hexie projects – one using 1/2″ and one using 1/4″ pieces. Those are tiny! I am glad to know about Julia and her books.
Your DVD looks very interesting. I am currently using my walking foot to quilt a single bed quilt. Everything is going OK so far, but I probably could use some of the expert advise you share on your DVD.
I’d love to win this DVD. I sure could use the help with my quilting. I’ve got lots of quilt tops that I really need to finish. Thanks for the chance to win.
Nipped across from Julias blog…..she does seem to be a delightful lady, nice to see what she looks like in person too : )
hexi-itus is so infectious lol
Your dvd sounds invaluable – its on my wish list even now !
I already follow several of the ladies and thank you for introducing me to the others, I would love to win a copy as I’m sure it would improve my quilting.
The cover of your DVD is SOOOO inviting! I’m a visual learner so it would be wonderful to have you in my sewing room with me, virtually.
I would love to win a copy of her DVD. I have probably 15 quilt tops to finish; the DVD would be so helpful and inspiring.
Love to win the DVD and learn even more! Thank you for the giveaway!
Hoping to win a copy of your DVD. Thanks for the intro to Julia. I’m new to hexies so will look her up – the link didn’t work for me. Thanks again!
