I have a complete change of pace today. It’s my turn on my very good friend Cheryl Sleboda‘s blog hop. Cheryl’s long awaited DVD, Heirloom Sewing Techniques for Today’s Quilter has been released by Interweave Press.
It’s also available as a digital download and that is how I watched the finished product.
Of course, I had seen parts of it beforehand when Cheryl was actually filming it on the set of Quilting Arts TV in Cleveland, back in March. I was taking pictures from the green room…
Here’s a close up of Cheryl’s manicured hands working on one of her puff techniques.
Here she is stitching away on the machine.
And here’s one of her beautiful finished pieces, combining many of the techniques she demonstrates during the DVD.
I am the sixth stop on the blog hop so you can look at one of the other blogs (see the list below) for complete details of the DVD content.
I am intrigued by Cheryl’s work and decided I needed to have a go for myself. Cheryl’s directions are incredibly clear so I set to trying her petal technique on a little top for Ruby.
I bought a t-shirt from Target. It came with a flower embellishment which seemed perfect for what I had in mind. I chose a fat quarter from my stash and a couple of hours later the t-shirt had been transformed…
Not too bad?
Of course the proof is in the wearing and Ruby was happy to model for me!
The petal puffs make just the right amount of gathering.
Ruby inspected her new top from every angle.
I think she liked it!
Cheryl has lots more techniques I want to try. I will be watching my download again to check them out. Anyone interested in fabric manipulation, for quilting, clothing or home dec will appreciate all the information shared on this new DVD.
