Forty seven days later…

That’s nearly seven weeks since I set off on my travels and where have I been since then? A good question and one which I will ignore for today.

But I will attempt to catch up a little. I just went through my photographs and found 23 I feel the need to share so perhaps I won’t be catching up completely right now?

OK, so this is what I will do. Today I am posting the “England” pictures and then through the week I will catch up with all the quiltie adventures I have had since my return…

I flew in to Heathrow on the Wednesday morning to be met by a smiley Gill. We called in on Mill Hill to admire the construction work, including a fuschia pink glass backsplash in the new kitchen… wow!! and then on to Sproughton to my dad’s.

Bridget arranged for a trip to London on the Thursday. We were not ready for the rain shower awaiting us when we exited the tube station, but true to form… by the afternoon the weather had changed and it was back to the 70’s and sunny. I bought beads at Beadworks, the bead store in Covent Garden and Birkenstocks at the Birkenstock store… It was good to meet up with Elizabeth too. I’m glad she had sensible shoes on. By the time we had been to Oxford Street for John Lewis (yarn) and M and S (baby clothes) we had walked a fair way. She was planning on walking down to Kensington High Street after she left us. I was ready to go home on the train.

Here’s a quick snap at Cambridge Circus… Nice bunting…

Dad is setting new standards of hospitality. I am seriously concerned about his trip in September… here is the dinner table waiting for us on our return…

Will we be able to eat in the kitchen when he is here?

He has also bought new comfortable chairs… Di drove up on the Saturday and tried them out…

When I left Naperville it was 40 degrees and there was not a lot of action in the yard… England had been having a record breaking spring and there were flowers in bloom everywhere. These allium were in Bridget’s garden.

While I was at Bridget’s I popped in to the dream on studio and found a few things to update my summer wardrobe…

If you look closely at this picture you can find a few of my purses on display. They are continuing to sell, slowly but steadily.

Living in the United States does make me appreciate how old things are in England. Dad and I went to Bury St. Edmond’s for a little sightseeing. These are the abbey ruins with  St. Edmondsbury Cathedral in the background. The abbey was founded in 1020 but was dismantled and  fell into disrepair at the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII in the sixteenth century. That’s a long time ago!!

And I think we do need a picture of sister Bridget and the old guy… Here they are at the pub ready for quiz night. We did OK but we were missing Chris who would have been very useful on the sporting questions… At least I knew how many stars are on the US flag… ( I could have told them the number of stripes too.)

I packed a lot in to a week. No wonder it has taken me so long to get around to documenting my trip. I have made a few quilts and taught a few classes since my return. I will endeavor to write about those tomorrow…
