Dreaming of Japan… in stitches.

I came home from Florida with a few presents for the grandchildren and a cold…

If you know me at all, you know that I don’t suffer in silence very well. I haven’t accomplished very much of anything useful this week but I haven’t completely wasted my time on the couch.

I’m working on a series of stitcheries inspired by Folk Art from around the world.

I have a friend who is currently in Japan so it seems kind of appropriate to share a couple of finishes with a Japanese feel today.IMG_6646What could be more suitable than a Carp?IMG_6640Except maybe a heron?IMG_6644Lots of basic chain stitch, making the most of the variegations in the hand dyed threads I’m using.IMG_6638I’m using a variety of solids for the backgrounds. These two were Kona cotton which is good and firm to stitch on without a hoop. All the stitching is in hand dyed 8 weight perle cotton from House of Embroidery.

I’m gradually working my way around the globe. I’m going to have a fun exhibit when I’m done stitching and putting them into quilts!

You are an inspiration (especially when I needed it). Both are really great.
