This week at Riverwalk Quilters Guild we enjoyed a visit from Leora Raikin to educate and instruct us as she took us on safari in South Africa…
Members really appreciated her low-key and friendly, yet well- informed approach. She kept our attention with frequent pop quizzes (correct answers rewarded with hand-dyed embroidery threads) and beautiful samples. Several reluctant guild members signed up to join the fun at her class after the presentation…
The class the next day continued in similar fashion… Leora had everyone confidently stitching following the fun rules of African Folklore Embroidery… most importantly “no poking your neighbor with your needle”…
Here she is, showing Jan the finer points of a good satin stitch…
Towards the end of the class we had a naming ceremony to name our embroidery pieces… Here is Lisa with her tea cup.
Me? I’m working slowly on a teapot with a pair of elephants I’ve named “two of a kind”. I was officially workshop hostess which meant I went to get lunch… So here is a picture of one of Leora’s samples,
Mine will be a few weeks coming. What with signing up for new classes at Pieceful Heart (which will need samples making) and the prospect of that new grandchild I have lots of excuses…
