We had more snow starting Saturday and into Sunday… (the mailbox is looking closer and closer to the ground)
So I sewed!! By Sunday evening I had this little piece all sewed and completed, More Than Twenty Three Hexagons.
They are 3/4″ hexagons from a Moda mini charm pack of 2WENTY THR3E by Eric and Julie Comstock I picked up at QuiltCon. I did matchstick quilting in a variegated 50 wt Aurifil thread, cream with just a hint of yellow and pink to pick up the colors in the hexagons.
Monday morning the Polar Vortex was moving in with record low temperatures and my attention turned to my sewing space…
Mmm… before I started a new project I thought I should tidy up a little?
Two hours later it looked a lot better!
I have a list of challenges and projects that need completing in the next few months but the first one that caught my eye was our Naperville Modern Quilt Guild Ugly Fabric Challenge…
Gentler Times Stitching gave us each a fat quarter of Brenda’s choice bolt. She had chosen Dear Stella Marea Autumn Stripe which I actually liked. (Thanks Brenda!) We decided that we could make whatever we wanted as long as there was a recognizable amount of the fabric showing somewhere on the front of our project.
This is what I made, Modern Feather.
It’s about 12″ x 30″. I used Jacquie Gering‘s Slice and Insert technique for the center block. Maybe it’s a mini quilt, maybe it’s a table runner?
This time I added straight line echo stitching in a beige solid 50wt Aurifil thread…
Now I really must get ready for my road trip to Wisconsin tomorrow. It’s supposed to get above 0… positively balmy?
I am very impressed with the clean studio. Maybe you can visit me and help me do the same. Plus, the beautiful yellow walls are so nice.
I will get there one day… before too long I hope!
