Out and about in Indiana!

Just for fun…

Steve was reading the BBC news feed a few months ago and came across an exhibition at the Indiana University Museum of Art in Bloomington that he thought sounded like something we would like to see. It just so happened I had a trip already planned that just might work to combine with an adventure…

So here we are!

We drove down to Bloomington on Saturday afternoon to be in place for a visit to the Sidney and Lois Eskanzi Museum of Art. No rush on Sunday morning because it didn’t open until noon. The hardest part was working out where we could legally park. Sundays outside of term time are wide open but where were we actually supposed to leave the car?

I had another look at the website… That conundrum solved, we headed towards the museum. It’s an imposing building designed by I.M.Pei, and the reception staff were very welcoming.

We just got in under the wire, on the last day of the Blanche Hoschedé-Monet – in the Light exhibit.

Sounds interesting?

It was! We joined an hour long guided tour at 2, for additional insights into the paintings. Our guide asked us which was our favorite picture. This was mine.

It shows the gardens at Giverny. Apparently Blanche painted the same view many times. Did you notice the garden is overgrown and the path leads us into the house through the open blue door?

If you are intrigued there is a video you can watch here. I haven’t watched it yet but I hope to soon.

We bought the book and spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around some of the other  rooms. I always like the Ancient Art.

Some Egyptian pieces, dating back 3000 years…

An Iranian water vessel from the late 12th or early 13th century,

A couple of fish plates, one from ancient Greece,

and one from France, 16th century,

An eclectic mixture of delights?

Time to move on. We have spent the last two nights in downtown Indianapolis. Steve worked yesterday and I went out for a walk!

Past some interesting buildings…

just over two miles… to one of my most favorite quilt shops.

Crimson Tate on the increasingly trendy Mass Avenue!

I didn’t really need anything. I bought some store-exclusive woven labels and a rotary cutter (because I have left mine at home and I am going to need one tomorrow). Of course I took some pictures of the always colorful displays!

Well worth the walk, I did get a Lyft ride back to escape the rain!

Today we are headed to Brownsburg, about half an hour north of Indianapolis. I will be joining the Scrapbasket Quilt Guild for their meeting tonight. I’m booked for Lessons Learned While Quilting and then we’ll have some English paper piecing fun tomorrow. It’s been almost exactly four years since I was last there. You can read about that visit in this post.

Meanwhile, registration is open for Quilt Festival in Houston. My walking foot class is full but there is still room in my Friday hand work classes. If you are in the Dallas area you might like to check out the Original Sewing Quilting Expo. Some spaces just opened up in my machine classes and I’m teaching my popular beading class too!
