No machines required!

Two days, two different lectures, two different workshops and no sewing machines needed… Steve thought I was moving out when he saw all the bags I had packed standing ready in the hall…

I’m home again from my whirlwind trip out to Prairie Star Quilt Guild in St. Charles. Outside it was HOT but inside we kept our cool and had lots of fun while getting to grips with the intricacies of hand work.

We started with an all-day African Folklore Embroidery workshop. That was a full six hours of stitching!

Chain stitch forms the backbone of the design.

DSC05324 Extra threads are always good…

DSC05328 Everybody is free to fill in their designs however they want to. This is going to be a beautiful  two elephant teapot.

DSC05329 But despite the concentration required we were still smiling at the end of the day!

DSC05330 The show and tell at the evening meeting included some of the happy students,

DSC05335 who were keen to show off their creativity!

DSC05336 The evening meeting went a few minutes over but no-one walked out. Perhaps it was the hope of a prize in the pop quiz during my Safari through African Folklore lecture?

We returned early the next morning to a big crowd ready for Lessons Learned While Quilting. maybe it was the early hour … they were a lively crowd!

DSC05337 After a quick lunch it was time for the Wool Appliqué Experience.

Once again the students found plenty to laugh about. Maybe it was the bullion knots?

DSC05343 These ones certainly looked great!

DSC05344Three hours flew past. I had a super two days, not too far from home. I hope to see some of those Prairie Star quilters again soon!
