I take it as the ultimate compliment if a group invites me back. I’ll take any compliment I can get, but that’s a big one!
So I was delighted to receive a request to return to the Lakeside Quilting Guild in Hyde Park Chicago. (south Chicago in the University/Museum of Science and Industry area if you’re wondering) They meet in the basement of the Treasure Island Foods, America’s Most European Supermarket…
The weather yesterday was bad! Storms moving through, thunder and lightning, bad! But, by the appointed time for setting off it had actually stopped raining so I was happy. I was glad to be on the North bound side of the 55. Traffic seemed to be backed up on the other side the whole 25 miles… There was an overturned semi and traffic going down to two lanes, not fun at all.
Well my side was slow in places but mostly clear so I made good time and had time to finish my book before I went inside to set up. I knew the drill from my previous visit and used a shopping cart to get everything from the parking lot to the basement.
Once set up all we needed were customers!
The members soon started to arrive. They have been participating in a block challenge. There were some great blocks being displayed.Everyone used the same fabrics but could make any block they wanted. There’s still some discussion about how they will be pieced together but I loved them!I enjoy watching the group dynamics before a meeting. There’s always a little mutual quilt admiration. Some people find their snacks and their seats earlier than others.
It was soon time to start but before we did I took a group photograph. They were a lovely group of ladies and I had a super time. I hope they did too!
I checked my route before setting off home and left the 55 before the tail back… down to three miles by 10 pm… I took the Cass Avenue exit, headed north to 75th street and was home in time for Stephen Colbert’s debut on The Late Show. I’m sure it was good. I was asleep before it finished!
Thanks Catherine, you are always welcome!
