Do you ever buy kits and patterns and put them somewhere safe and that’s where they stay?
Me too! But just sometimes I get straight to stitching…
I bought a small bag of good things home with me from my trip to Sue Spargo at the end of May, including two pre-printed sashiko cloths that I needed…
And they are stitched!!
The Rainy Day and House designs were so much fun to sew.
I used several colors of 8 weight Eleganza for the Rainy Day design. I was worried that one spool of variegated EZM 47 (70 yards) wouldn’t be quite enough so I added a few rows of turquoise and burnt orange.
I used House of Embroidery 8 weight perle cotton (1C) for the House sampler.
I enjoy using variegate threads and watching the colors work together!
I am not a trained sashiko stitcher. I just enjoy the calm rhythmic stitching as I follow the printed lines. These cloths are traditionally used for cleaning. Mine will just sit around my house where I can admire them for a while. Then they will probably go in a storage box. One day they might find a new home but I’m not too worried about them being useful.
(If you want to stitch your own find them here on Sue’s website)
My bags are almost packed, ready to fly to Richmond for Road to Virginia tomorrow. I’ll put the last few things in my suitcases in the morning. I have kits for all my classes. Four machine quilting classes need 104 boxes of safety pins… and lots of handouts! I’ll let you know how it goes.
