I have to come up with a title every time I write a blog post… This one is going to be about the second half of January… that got me to thinking about a song from my youth so I just looked it up… any guesses? I don’t particularly recommend January from Pilot (1975) 🙂 Apparently they were a Scottish band, best known in the States for the song Magic.
Oh well! I am back in the cold of the Chicago suburbs but I enjoyed my ten days in Southern California…
The blue sky and warm temperatures are always something I look forward to when I land at Ontario airport.

I flew out in time to help Alicia (the Batty Lady) set up her booth at Road to California ready for Tuesday preview night. I really wasn’t very much help but I did manage to put price labels on a few things!

Preview night was busy. I was really there to introduce my new book. I returned Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for hour long sessions showing off some of the quilts and signing books. We were sold out by Friday. I guess that was a good thing!

After the first night I moved up the mountain to stay with Sheila. She came with me to the show on Thursday and Friday. We made sure to visit the quilts.

And we may have done a little shopping? (Sheila making a purchase from Heart to Hand)

Done with the quilt show, what to do next? We had plans! I had two much loved linen dresses that were worn and washed to the point of holes… I now have two new dresses. We carefully took apart the old ones and used the pieces to make patterns, added seam allowances, drew up facings. I had bought yardage of two cotton/linen bland fabrics at BERNINA of Naperville.
Here’s Sheila adding a pocket to one of them.

No pictures of the completed dresses but they are finished, washed and pressed and ready to wear. Perhaps there will be pictures on another occasion. I intend taking them to QuiltCon later this month.
That kept us busy through Monday morning. On Monday evening I was the guest speaker for the Inland Empire Quilters Guild, Sheila’s guild in Corona. I was too busy having a good time taking a trip around the world to remember to take photographs. You’ll have to believe me there was a good crowd in attendance.
On Tuesday we decided to get some culture at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, in particular at the Global Threads exhibit which celebrated the Textile Revolution of India. I took lots of pictures for future inspiration, but here’s just one of a pair of chintz dresses from Europe.

We had lunch in downtown Disney. I resisted the temptation to buy some mouse ears.
Just one last day. I joined Sheila and her friends for some hand stitching.

I met some of the ladies way back in 2008 and it’s always good to spend time together and catch up with the happenings in our lives
Oh well, all good things come to an end, and last Thursday found me homeward bound on a flight through Phoenix. My first time with assigned seating on Southwest Airlines and I survived… being a frequent flier gave me a great seat with pistachios and a Margarita… so I actually more than survived and arrived back at Midway quite happy!
We were booked to have quiet weekend but hot water tank woes meant we had a surprise visit from Julia and family, and then Sarah came to town so she popped in with Caroline.
Always the adventure indeed!
