I’m here!

I’m in Houston at International Quilt Festival!

After an early wake up call I drove myself to the airport and left the car in the Daily Parking for Steve to pick up on his way back from Baltimore. Checking my 96 pounds of luggage in took some moving between bags to make it work, but I did it… The super Southwest flight crew was right on time and my new, bright pink and purple luggage showed up on the carousel no problem. A short taxi ride later and here I am…

Wednesday night was preview night. I did a quick walk past all the vendors. Joanne should be proud of me… Looking around my sewing room before I left town it was quite apparent that I have enough of everything… and so I bought… no fabric and no thread… just a pewter necklace and some needles for my cruise kits.

I don’t really like to post pictures of the quilts at the show but the red and white display was spectacular.

It honors Festival’s Ruby Anniversary and it is awesome. There are quilts hung facing inwards as well but the lights make it very difficult to get a picture that way around.

Yesterday I was due in Open Studios at 10. The sign said so…

There were lines at Starbucks,

and lines waiting to get into the show. This one went outside and down the street.

I managed to convince a security guard that I was allowed in and had a super time in the Open Studios area. I was kept busy the whole time with my Walking Foot Quilting – Out of the Ditch demo and have no pictures to show for it.

I need to do better because I have no pictures until the evening when we went out to eat and took a stroll around a little mall area. This is an art installation called, appropriately enough, The Lawn.

I wonder if they mow it?

And so now it’s Friday morning. I have Open Studios at noon and at four so I’m off to a slow start. I’m pacing myself… I’ll try to take a few more photographs today.
