Good times!

Last weekend was the weekend of the three bridal showers…

By Thursday I realized that meant I would need to go shopping. Apparently the MOB is supposed to give the bride a present?

So I went to Lisle to find something else beside the zebra print Snuggie I had selected for the lingerie party… and I found these well dressed birds wading in the fountain on Main Street. Aren’t they fun?

I did eventually cross the road to Tina’s Closet and get a present for the blushing bachelorette…

… and a good time was had by all. I refrained from joining the party in Downtown Naperville which meant I was in a reasonably fit condition to drive out to Poplar Grove for the bridesmaid fittings before the second shower of the weekend. My breakfast friends provided a much more sober affair with a traditional English afternoon tea. No pictures because my camera went to the zoo with Benjamin…

Glad to see he had his hat and sunglasses on!

Julia had us out of bed early on Sunday morning to make the sandwich cakes she had planned for the Bridesmaids’ Brunch shower…

A fun weekend but enough is enough when it comes to some kinds of fun.

Then it was time to get back to the sewing machine. I finished my hour glass quilt with a broad band of pink Marcia Derse fabric and some walking foot quilting. I think you can see the wavy lines over the hour glass blocks if you look carefully. The Pellon wool batting shows them up nicely.

Next I put together this 40″ square little quilt with the Moda Stitch in Color fabrics I had bought on my Ohio trip. The block is called Courtyard Garden by John G. Adams. It’s from the book Fat Quarterly Shape Workshop for Quilters. Really I just wanted to play with the bright fabrics and it seemed like a great block to try.

I’ve been wanting to quilt a spiral for a while so I tried that too. No marking… just start stitching and go for it! I am going to put an orange binding on this week. That orange and yellow palette is definitely growing on me.

On Monday I finally got to join the Fiber Art Divas for our monthly meeting at the Naperville Art League. Jane Dougherty from Oak Lawn joined us for a demonstration of the Japanese marbling technique, Suminagashi, using ink on water. After her demo we all got a chance to have a go. Here is my piece.
