Fun times with family (and a little stitching)

I had a gap in my schedule so how should we fill it? Let’s drive up to visit the Chippewa Redfords! So we did 🙂

Just a quick trip. Steve took the day off work (!!) and did the driving on Friday. We enjoyed an adult dinner with James and Sarah. Thanks James for the photo!

We visited the farmers market on Saturday morning and then had a lovely day with the family at home. James and the children enjoyed the pool. We sat comfortably in the shade before coming inside for a movie.

Steve looks a little worried but Caroline was enjoying it!

We met up at church on Sunday morning and then went out for lunch together before we drove home again. That’s one big pyramid of creamers?

Sunday afternoon traffic going South is always challenging but Steve did a sterling job while I might have had a snooze. Definitely fun times!

Back home I have actually been doing a little stitching, in between getting things ready for my next few trips.

My friend Joan had an unfinished workshop project she wanted to pass on… The drunkard path blocks were made and webbed together and she had plenty of extra fabric.  I finished the center, added wide borders and then thought about what to do next…

At least ten hours of stitching later we have a 1/2″ walking foot grid set on an angle and a double spiral of cross stitches in #8 perle cotton, finished with a 1/4″ narrow border and a 3/8″ binding. The Wonderfil Eleganza hand-stitching is a little subtle but I think it adds an extra layer of interest?

I’ve also been stitching some samples of the Roseworks kits I have for sale when I am traveling. The kits include a printed design, six colors of House of Embroidery hand-dyed threads and instructions for stitching. I do not use a hoop when I am sewing but they fit nicely in a 6 or 7″ hoop when finished!

I have stitched three so far. They look good together?

Autumn Rooster,

Leafy Greens,

and Sunset Mandala.

If you like them, and you are not going to be seeing me soon, they are available to purchase over on Sue Spargo’s website on the Embroidery Samplers and Panels page.

The laundry is currently underway. My bags are almost packed. I’m headed south to Dallas tomorrow for the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Irving. It’s hot here (89F and humid). It will be even warmer there. I will make sure I have included a cardigan for in the classroom. (IYKYK?)
