The children came into town and we all took the bus to Ribfest yesterday afternoon. It took a while to find a green space to put our blankets but we managed to find just enough room to place ourselves. After a healthy(?) dinner of ribs and fried vegetables we settled down to watch the fireworks.
The bus was waiting for us when everything was done, so we were soon home, along with a fluffy dog and too many glo-sticks…
Meanwhile back at home… I have finished all my samples (apart from the one I haven’t got the pattern for yet) and I’m a day early…
This is the sample for Applique Fiber Primer. The fiber is distributed by a company called When Quilts Fly owned by Judy Rohret in Iowa. I met her at the Rosemont Quilt Show this year. It’s basically a machine applique technique but instead of using freezer paper templates and having to cut the back to take your templates out, you use the fiber and leave it in. When you wash the top the fibers go soft and swell leaving you with a nice mock needle-turned finish with a little stuffing! It’s not as quick as fusing but much much quicker than doing it all by hand. I think it’s a technique worth trying. Class coming up!
So here’s some fusing fun! This is “Ruffles” by Sew Be It. The big pink flowers are fused and satin stitched and the background simply pieced from a selection of the latest green batiks at Pieceful Heart Fabrics. I finished the flower centers off with some beads this morning and it’s all done.
So, I’m off to the store later this morning. I’ve still got the supply lists to print. I just need to check there are no last minute alterations for me to make… I’m feeling good…
