Yo Yo Mama!

I really did enjoy myself doing my yo-yo demo in the Open Studios at Quilt Festival Chicago last month. I borrowed several items from friends for my display. Amongst them was this pillow that Nancy lent me.

DSC04859It has a label on it saying it was made in the 1940’s which puts it right in the middle of the yo-yo sewing craze in the USA, coinciding with the start of mass production of the popular toy.

I thought it would be fun to make a modern version of the pillow. I used two charm packs of Thomas Knauer’s Asbury fabrics for Andover and some of my precious Marcia Derse Modern Solids.

A Clover Yo-Yo maker made the process quite painless! I used the 4.5mm size for the 64 yo-yos I needed for a 14″ pillow. I put a zipper closure in the back because I thought I should … not my best work, more practice required! I have already picked out the fabrics for my next pillow.
