To Quilt Wyoming and home again…

I’ve been home from a wonderful trip to Wyoming since Sunday evening. It’s time to catch up and share a few of the highlights of my excursion.

When I realized how close I was going to be to Yellowstone I knew I needed to extend my visit and go and have a look… I did that on Wednesday. On Thursday it was time for me to drive myself over the mountains to Riverton.

North on 26 through Jackson Hole with the Tetons to my left.Turn right at Moran junction and keep driving. Wow!

I needed to pull off and take photographs several times. The red rocks looked amazing against the blue sky.Beautiful open vistas in every direction. There was just enough traffic that I felt somebody would notice if anything happened. There wasn’t a lot of cell service along the way!

I had plenty of time so I decided to take a detour to Lander where I knew there was a yarn store…. I stopped into Safeway first to pick up some toothpaste and met a lady who had been a teacher with the owner of Pingora Yarns. Definitely a small town? There was a whole section of local hand-spun yarn. I found a few skeins I needed!

Time to head towards Central Wyoming College in Riverton and the members of the Wyoming State Quilt Guild. I checked in, found my home in the dorms and then set my classroom up, all before dinner.

After dinner we were treated to a presentation by Grace Errea. Here she is in action on stage during her lecture, The value of “value”. It had been a long day and I was ready to get to my bed.

Friday was an excellent day for Folk Art Embroidery. I had a full class plus a few… You can see them smiling for the camera as today’s featured image 🙂

Rayna Gillman was Friday night’s speaker. We learnt what might happen when we ask “what if?”
That came in handy during Saturday’s class, Wrapped in ScrapsEveryone had the same demo but the bowls varied greatly!

It takes all sorts… Such fun!

It was my turn to speak on Saturday evening. I took a picture while Leigh was introducing me…

We enjoyed taking a Trip Around the World in Folk Art Stitches with lots of threads as prizes to keep everyone awake and alert!

The sun was setting when we left the hall. I waited to watch the spectacular show. Such vivid colors.Sunday morning it was time to pack the car and head back West.

I had to stop to take pictures again. The Tetons looked majestic in the distance. The wildflowers were so pretty in the meadows.I arrived at the airport in plenty of time for my flight. I don’t know how much fun it would be to have to go outside to board the plane in the winter? One last look at the mountains as we taxied on the runway. And then up we went over Jackson, and onwards, until the mountains gave way to hills and the hills gave way to flat fields…and home to O’hare again!

What an amazing trip. The ladies of the Central region did a fantastic job looking after all the details that make such a difference to an event like this one. Thanks for having me Quilt Wyoming… until next time 🙂
