Spring is sprung!

Yesterday I saw a robin (actually a lot more than one) and the first crocii (plural of crocus?) in my garden.

So I think spring is officially here and I am ready to enjoy it!

I celebrated by doing something useful…. Steve ordered some jeans online and one pair came with a missing belt loop…  I guess I mean they came without the missing belt loop… That meant they were “absolutely unwearable” but with Superwoman and her sewing machine in the house all was not lost…

Some people are easily pleased… I took a belt loop off a worn out holey pair and sewed it on the new pair,  using YLI Jeans thread and a Denim needle!! My supplies are not just for quilting any more…

The Gathering gathered last Saturday and seemed to be enjoyed by those who attended. There were some high quality quilts on display made by our very talented guild members. Ami Simms was entertaining and informative as an after lunch speaker. I did a demo on Crazy Quilting

It was a little manic. With no microphone I felt I was shouting to be heard but I hope a few people went home inspired to give it a go.

My recycling bin came 2nd in the challenge. Pat Wright’s very lovely rooster wall quilt came 1st. I won a $50 gift certificate for Quilt Fabric.com and a ribbon. I went and spent the gift certificate on Tuesday. I bought a selection of light batiks for my drawer…

Other news:

My “parrots valentine card” is on the fiberarts.com web site. It won’t be appearing in the magazine but it was judged good enough for the “web extras”.

We had fun in the It’s a Wrap class at Pieceful Heart Fabrics last week. Everyone went home with a pot underway and every one was different.

A group photo,

and some individual shots…

…we went for the organic, let it just happen, approach and came up with some fun shapes, as can be seen in the pictures.

Brooke dropped in during our time to show us her Oriental Firecracker quilt, started last year in a class. She had taken the Lonni Rossi design and made it her own with scalloped edges and lots of embellishment. It was well worth taking a closer look.

I love it when people bring their finished projects back to show me!

I actually finished an old project last week. I was clearing up when I found a pinned and partly quilted “Field of flowers” quilt from the Super Simple Strips book from the Possibilities ladies. It didn’t take long to finish the quilting and bind it and today it was sunny enough to take a picture outside.

I pin basted an old Confetti Quilt top as soon as I finished this one so hopefully I will have that one done soon. I have some ideas how I’m going to quilt it but I have the Arboretum Dreaming class on Saturday and finishing my prep for that is priority number one at the moment.

… there’s always something to do!
