Shopping and stitching

Julia and the children came to visit yesterday until today. One of the fun activities we had planned was a trip to IKEA…

The children were numbers one and two in Smaland  this morning. They know exactly where their shoes go and how to put the name stickers on each other…

Julia returned her recalled items and we set off to spend her money, taking the short cut to the children’s storage area to pick up some new plastic boxes. Then it was down the stairs to the Marketplace to find all the things we didn’t know we needed…

I found two new little pictures for my sewing room… See, they look like they’ve been there forever?

I discovered the exact new box I needed in the stationery department… (the clock was purchased on a previous IKEA trip)

Just right for my growing pin collection!

And I love this next item. It’s sort of a picture frame. You can change your display as often as you want… it just slips under the plexiglass sheet to be held in place by the binder clip.

Too cool for words?

Lest you think that I have been too busy shopping to get to stitching…

My visitors left after lunch today so I have had all afternoon to get to the sewing machine. I’ve been having fun with a collection of cotton couture solids from Michael Miller Fabrics recently and decided to use some of my scraps. Bonnie Hunter announced her 2015 Leader and Ender Challenge as tumblers today so that’s what I cut from my scraps. Of course I wanted to make it modern so here’s what I came up with.

It’s not very big, about 26″ square. I layered my top with some more of that plaid fabric and some Quilters Dream Request cotton batting and I’ve started quilting it. So far I’ve shadow quilted all the seam lines, extending them to the edges for continuity.

Tomorrow I plan on adding some free motion stitching to add a second layer of design on top of the piecing.

Shopping and stitching, two of my favorite things all in one day!!
