No idle hands allowed?

I’m writing from sunny San Jose! I’m here for the annual SAQA conference. I’m signed in, I’ve got my badge, been out for lunch and now I’m waiting for the first official event… the new member meet up at 6 o’clock. I had problems uploading photographs before I left home so  I’ll use my few spare minutes to catch up 😉

It’s less than a month to Spring Quilt Market and I committed to stitching some of the new designs for Global Artisans, ready for display in the booth. I have posted pictures before of Flowers and Images of Africa. Now I’m working my way through the Ndebele Christmas designs.

Nativity is a large design. Ten colors of hand dyed thread are included in the kit. I didn’t get a very good picture but I hope you get the idea?
Here’s a close up view of the kings. All of the figures are represented as traditional Ndebele dolls. The angel was much quicker to stitch!I outlined everything with chain stitch and then added the details. I do like the way the stars look. I worked them in fly stitches sewn close together.

And a close-up!

I have two more designs traced and ready to stitch. I can get them done in time!

So what has today’s featured image got to do with anything? Did you even notice it?

Here’s the full view…

I need more projects (?)… so I layered and basted a chunk of the pre-pieced silk sari fabrics I sourced for classes. I’m going to be adding Kantha style stitching in my odd few minutes. It will be a background for a new embroidered design I haven’t started yet! I’ll have cut yardage for sale with me on my travels in the future, and it will be included in the kit for students in my three day class at Camp Saddlebrook in the fall. I’ve got lots to do before October but one needs to plan ahead?

While I’m thinking of planning ahead…

As I said market is fast approaching and then I will be headed East to STITCHES United! in Atlanta. There is still space in my classes and I’m still looking for students. As an incentive, if you would like to join me in Georgia, I can offer you a discount code for 20% off when you book on line. Just click on the button at the side and enter the code CR19U at checkout. It’s a fun show. I have four classes and some of my quilts will be on display on the exhibition floor.

Camp Saddlebrook, STITCHES United!, STITCHES Midwest, AQS Quiltweek in Paducah in September and newly announced, Quilt Festival in Houston… good times ahead. Perhaps I’ll see you?

Back to this evening, Threads of Innovation with the Studio Art Quilt Associates…

I was just wondering where you were, as you’ve not appeared in my mailbox for a couple of weeks. But you have been busy as usual. The nativity piece is very interesting. When I checked out the Global Artisans site, I realized that this piece is larger than i pictured it. I do wish The October event at Saddleback was closer to Nova Scotia. I’d love to attend and learn.
