Meet the Super Heroes of Cary’s Friendship Star Quilt Guild!

I drove North again on Saturday. This time I took I-355 before branching off to the West… through Palatine, Barrington, Crystal Lake… and places in between. My local geography must be improving?

My destination was the Friendship Star Quilt Guild Annual Retreat where around 30 ladies were having too much fun at their super hero themed day away!

Seriously, can you have too much fun?

I was there to teach my Free Motion quilting class to anyone who wanted to join in…and twenty three fearless stitchers did!

I demo’ed, they doodled and sewed, or chatted…
and every so often there was a photo op opportunity…
Time for the super heroes to ham it up and win prizes as they posed in their red capes and various accoutrements 🙂Still smiling, even as the day wore on.We started the class at 9.30, took about an hour for a fabulous lunch and then sewed until almost 5.00. We tried lots of motifs and worked on smooth, regular stitches.

Something like this…I packed up and started home just before 5.30. Some of the ladies were going to stay until 11! I was fast asleep long before that.

It was a super day with the guild members. Theresa did a wonderful job of making sure everybody had more than enough of everything we needed.

Now all that’s needed is practice.

Meanwhile, I’ve been stitching my January butterfly from our Year of Butterflies.

I have started a Facebook group for you to upload your pictures and progress. Look for it as Catherine Redford : Year of Butterflies 2018. It’s a public group so anyone can see it but you do need to request to join before you can post anything. I will be posting tips and tricks as time goes on and I look forward to seeing what all my creative friends get up to.

I’m getting ready for my Southern California trip this week. I’m aiming to post the cutting and placement diagrams for the wool appliqué version of the butterfly before I go.

But first I need to finish unpacking my suitcases from last week…
