December Butterfly

December 1st!

That means it is time for a new butterfly. It’s been a bit of a struggle to get them done on time the last few months and I haven’t stitched a wool version yet but I have my embroidery done…

I thought a red background would be seasonal.A chain stitch outline with buttonhole stitch, fly stitch, french knots, whipped woven circles and long and short stitches.Let’s take a closer look!

I do like the bright “eyes”!

As usual find the design ready to print at the top of the page under the Year of Butterflies tab.

So that’s it for embroidered butterflies. I hope you’ve enjoyed the designs. It’s been good for me to be kept accountable. Now I can make a quilt! We’ll have to wait and see how long that takes. I have ideas.

It’s a different story on those wool butterflies. I have added the last two designs to the year of butterflies page but I haven’t actually stitched them out… that means there may be modifications to be made?

How are you doing with your stitching? I know it’s a busy time of the year but hand work is a great project to have with you when you are traveling, or just for something to do when all those around you are watching TV. Trace out a few of the designs and put them in a bag with some of your favorite threads, a small needle case and little scissors and you can be ready wherever you find yourself. Then you can post your progress on our Facebook page?

I am planning to leave the designs up through the end of the year but then I am going to hide them from public view. I will have the designs with me when I teach. I have been selling four of the embroidery designs printed on kona cotton and ready to stitch. I think I will have all of them printed on a panel in the new year. I am offering the wool butterflies as a class project at Road to California in January and students will be able to choose from all twelve designs.

Before you ask, I have no plans to start a mail order business! I love teaching around the country (and beyond when invited) and that’s what I need to concentrate on. I am simply not organized enough to add anything else to my schedule 🙂

Happy stitching!

I just discovered your blog from the quilt skipper. I very much enjoyed reading about your butterflies. I made a butterfly quilt this year and am still machine quilting it. I will post to your facebook when completed. Thankyou for your inspiration. I look forward to reading much more from you.

Jenny Lyon inspired me to check your blog out! Very beautiful butterflies. I’m mostly a quilter – but many moons ago I used to do hand needlework. Your stitching has inspired me to pick up that bag I have stashed in the closet with all that beautiful thread! I have some ideas of a Table Runner :).

    Thanks, Mary Bailey
