Quilt Market – St.Louis, 2017 – part one

I’m in St. Louis for Quilt Market! It’s about time I posted some pictures? After all this is day four and I’m leaving town this afternoon…

Here goes.

I packed the car on Wednesday morning with everything I needed for the next week. There was just too much to have the back seats up but it wasn’t super crowded?
It’s 270 miles to St. Louis from Naperville. I listened to five podcasts from While She Naps and got myself well educated on the latest news from the quilting world. My GPS took me on the interesting route across the river and in to St.Louis… but I did get to the hotel and unloaded my bags, parked the car and checked in. Everything was in order!

Thursday is Schoolhouse day at Market. Everyone gets a booklet and then sorts out their schedule for the day. So many choices.
Yes, Jemima and I are expected in session 12.But first everyone comes together for the Premiere Event. The theater was full.Karey Bresenhan welcomed us all. Marti Michell made sure we knew where the classrooms were and then a curator from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London introduced us to the life and work of William Morris whose designs are the inspiration for Moda Fabric’s latest quilting collection.

William Morris is often quoted for saying,

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

I might need to do some clearing out when I get home?

On to the classes. I started the day with Latifah Safir who had her new collection with Hoffman California Fabrics. Her mom and sister were there to help.

A new clammy quilt,Foundation paper pieced shoes!Cute children in cross-stitch style, and an adorable dress, made for Latifah’s niece…Lots of fun!

But no time to stop… on to Jamie Fingal‘s presentation of Hopscotch for RJR.A rainbow of color and small scale prints.
That was Leslie Tucker Jennison behind the little quilt!

Every schoolhouse session ends with a drawing and I was delighted to win a bundle of  teal and blue fat quarters…And so the day went on. Lots of fabric, demos, and books,

including the new books from F+W!I had met up with Jemima earlier to organize ourselves. We were outside our class room in plenty of time for our session. Vanessa from F+W came to help out.

Jemima went first. Her book, Weekend Quilts, has just been released and is off to a great start.

Here’s Jemima showing one of the bigger quilts in the book.
Then it was my turn.

Time to get real. It was after four, Moda were doing a bakeshop demo… We did not have a huge audience…

Looking left, and no, everyone was not on the right hand side…Never mind? I gave my presentation like the room was full! The prize winners were pleased to get their books.

Perhaps this was where the audience was?In line for Sample Spree! The front row had been there since three o’clock. I was not joining the line. I went back to my hotel room to return my stuff and my Schoolhouse goodies.Time for a little TV, a little knitting and then back to the Convention Center for some shopping.

I have an interior room in my hotel so pictures of all my shopping are difficult! I am off to Springfield this afternoon, to teach at a retreat organized by Peace & Applique Quilt Shop. I think the light will be better there so I am planning a photo shoot! I’ll also post pictures from the show floor. It’s been a fun time in St. Louis…
