Of summer, Petunia City and a new quilt

Winter turned to summer seemingly overnight this year. Memorial Day weekend’s pool opening actually made sense so Sunday afternoon we joined the fun, with two, very happy to be there, small children…

and the Benjamin!

DSC08270They are certainly growing up fast.

Petunia City Quilters in Dixon, Illinois have been on the calendar for a long time. Sue came with me and we arrived in plenty of time for our ten o’clock start. The ladies stitched away on their African Folklore Embroideries…

DSC08298My left hand stitch guide came in useful for Esther who set to work with alacrity. (that’s brisk and cheerful readiness if you were wondering… it seemed exactly the right word!) her Village Lady was well under way by going home time.

DSC08301Shopping is always a popular pastime and Jeanne and Kathy took advantage of the opportunity.

DSC08299Dragonfly, Paisley Flower and Poppies under way.

DSC08296We talked about adding sparkles, beads, ribbon and fabric and how to finish off our projects before we were done for the day. Next it was time for dinner and then we were back for the Guild meeting. We had a few problems with a few of the pop quiz questions… Big Five anybody?

These ladies showed their work at Show and Tell time. They look happy!

DSC08302Sue kept me awake on the journey home. Illinois is very flat… The ladies of Dixon made me very welcome. I do hope I get some pictures of finished projects sometime soon!

Meanwhile, I wanted to make a quilt inspired by a winter morning not that long ago…

This is just a detail of my piece. I’m still deciding how to finish the edges but I needed to get it made while I still remembered the snow sticking to wet branches after a late shower…  It can’t have been more than eight or nine weeks ago?
