More fun in Temecula

Tuesday morning we left our bedroom and walked across to the workroom under sunny skies!I had a project all organized.

My plan was to construct a table runner using the Fons and Porter Apple Core Template and kit I received recently as part of their template of the month program.I cut all my pieces and started to piece the curved seams.

Outside the skies were beginning to darken. The rain soon came down, followed by hail stones. You can see them best on the trunk of the black car in the picture below.Very exciting for the Californian quilters!!

I managed to complete all my curved piecing and basted my table runner ready for quilting. And that’s about where I left it for the day… I did do a few lines of quilting but I decided to wait until I’m home on my own sewing machine. I’ll doing a more complete blog post on the whole process using the template once it’s finished but that’s all on that for now.

I spent the evening finishing some embroidery ready to start my next project on Wednesday morning.

Time for a new quilt top. I had five embroideries and a layer cake of Meadow Sweets from Jill Finley for Penny Rose fabrics. These were the fabrics Jill gave me at the BERNINA reunion in December. They were inspired by Swiss  folk art motifs and were just right for my plans for A Taste of Europe quilt. The weather co-operated for us to walk up the hill to lunch. Here are Kay, Sheila and Cheryl.Note sun glasses and warm tops… The temperature remained stubbornly in the 50s. Poor us?

By 4 o’clock, wine time, I had made reasonable progress on my quilt top,and I had everything pieced together by bed time! It’ll finish at around 32″ x 24″. Now that I’m home and looking at it some more I think I’m going to add a few hexies in the top left hand corner but I was pleased enough to call it a day last Wednesday.

Just one more half day before we had to pack up…
