Life at the zoo and elsewhere

All of a sudden it’s Wednesday… the Redford family have been busy…

I spent much of last week stitching on one thing and another and preparing for house guests who were all too much fun.

Saturday was National Quilting Day and Pieceful Heart Fabrics was the place to be. I set up for a one hour hand stitching demo… Modern Quilts, wool appliqué and African Folklore Embroidery were all represented on the back wall.

I had a Crabapple Hill sampler and some little original pieces on the table…

The hour whizzed by as we looked at hand stitches for embroidery and beading our quilts. It was indeed a happy Quilting Day!!

On Sunday it was time to celebrate Benjamin’s third birthday at the Brookfield Zoo. Here is our boy himself with his sister and parents…

The whole family had made the trek and posed (after a fashion) outside Tropical World… (except me and Julia who were taking pictures)

and one of the inhabitants who seemed quite happy to sit for portraits…

Fun times indeed.

Then it was back to sewing… I have been working on a second log cabin design.

DSC03245It’s green!! I am calling it Spring will come again. We can hope? It is actually quilted and just needs the binding and hanging sleeve hand stitching down. I will post another picture once that’s done. I have an idea for a third one but we shall have to see what tomorrow brings…

I finished my wool piece this morning, 15″ square,

and a close up.

I have made it as a sample for my wool appliqué class at Prairie Star Quilt Guild in August. I hope they like it.

One observation: Embellished wool appliqué is not a project for those in a hurry.
