From here to Iowa City and beyond…

Stephanie and I were planning on going to the AQS show in Des Moines this year but hadn’t actually got around to booking a hotel. Then Derek accepted a job in Iowa City and we didn’t need a hotel… we could easily drive there for the day from their new home.

It’s not too bad a drive from here to Iowa City (except for the long bridge over the Missouri River, now down to one lane in each direction with those concrete walls on each side…) so I got there in plenty of time on Thursday to explore the town before dark.

Friday saw us in Des Moines for the show…

It was a good size to get around in one day. We admired the quilts on display, shopped the vendors and I enjoyed ice-cream for lunch. Stephanie got a great deal on a new sewing machine and we went home very happy!

On Saturday Derek came with us around and about. We visited a wonderful new store in Hills, Inspirations. Here are Derek and Stephanie with the owner, Nicky Lackender. I hope she does well in her new venture.

I called in to see Benjamin (and his parents) on the way home the next day. It was definitely worth the detour.

This week the Fiber Divas have their now annual fiber art show at the Naperville Art League. We arrived with all our pieces on Friday and then some people worked very hard arranging things whilst the rest of us just hung around gossiping.

An hour and a half and everything was organized. There is an eclectic mix of art works on display all week.

I missed the Artist’s Reception on Sunday because I was teaching a class at Pieceful Heart Fabrics. It was a just a small class with two Quilters and Children but we had a lot of fun making place mats and napkins from a Possibilities pattern.

Here are the finished projects…

Didn’t they do a wonderful job? I love seeing the fabric choices. Kassidy was even dressed to co-ordinate with hers!

Tomorrow we are off on our English Adventure. We are checked in. It doesn’t seem quite right, being able to check in before we have even packed our bags but we are. We will be over the Atlantic in 24 hours. It’s going to be a busy day !
