Celebrate Woodridge!

Today was the annual State of the Village luncheon for the Village of Woodridge. It was also the day the 50th Anniversary Quilt was unveiled. The quilt was made from blocks designed by the children of Woodridge and put together by the Peaceful World Bee that meets at Pieceful Heart Fabrics.

So why was I there?

Gina asked me to make a center block for the quilt. I enjoyed designing and then constructing a leafy tree with deep roots – remember all the tree photographs back in September? There was a request for fiber embellishments so I free-motioned couched brown yarns on the trunk and lots of green ones on the canopy.

Now the quilt will go on display at all eight schools in Woodridge, and at the Park District Community Center, Village Hall and Library on a rotating basis through 2009. Tickets for a raffle to benefit the Woodridge Community Pantry will be sold. The winner will have the privilege of having his name on a plaque next to the quilt showing him as the donor of the quilt to the village when the quilt goes on permanent display at Town Center in 2010. The goal is to raise $18000 to buy 50 tons of food to celebrate 50 years of Woodridge.

PHF will soon have tickets for sale. Gina would like to sell at least one ton’s worth, that’s 360 tickets. It’s a very good cause so it shouldn’t be a problem…
