A little quilting for pleasure

I’ve been working on a project all week. No pictures but lots of effort. I’ve had to think!

I found this quote from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland last weekend,

“Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end; then stop.”

and I’ve tried to keep it in mind, but I have to admit I’ve finished knitting a reasonable sized wrap and started another one…

Nevertheless I was about where I wanted to be by yesterday so when  a friend gifted me this English Paper Pieced quilt she’d made a while ago, I had an idea…

IMG_3337It is a pretty little wall hanging with some great hand stitching and cute reproduction prints. The quilt had some minimal machine quilting to hold it together and had been on display so it had a few small spots and a little discoloration in places…

IMG_3343I decided to quilt in all the white space. I stitched all the sashing lines in the ditch and then added feathers and stipples…

It took a while but I had just finished when Steve called to say he was on his way home.
IMG_3347Now it was ready for washing. I put it in the machine with two bath towels and washed it on a hand wash cycle before drying it on low for half an hour and then spreading it out flat to finish.

Ta-da! This is what it looked like this morning.

Thanks Karen! I’ll be taking it on my travels as an example of English Paper Piecing when you want a change from hexagons! Super accurate and relaxing hand work.
Meanwhile, It’s Saturday morning and I did the number generating thing on the comments for the Back to School Blog Hop. I’ve e-mailed Linda and as soon as I hear from her I’ll be putting her prize in the mail. I’m also sending some needles to Courtney because her honest comment made me smile.

I’ll be changing my needle and cleaning my machine before I start sewing today!
