A little pincushion

What to do on a sunny day in California?

Why not make a pincushion with the wool from Pati at Marcus Fabrics?

Great idea!

We had been given two five inch squares of pale pink and a three inch square of dark red to work with. I used a three inch square of freezer paper to help me make my appliqué shape somewhat symmetrical.

Basting helped hold the shape in place while I whip stitched the edges with a matching Genziana wool thread.

Time to add embroidery with with 8wt. pearl cottons from House of Embroidery. What fun!

Bullion stitch, stem stitch, french knots, lazy daisies, crested chain stitch and trellis stitch inside a chain stitch circle.

All done, time to make the square into a pin cushion using crushed walnut shells for the filling.

And another pretty picture…

All ready for use!

Such cute teddy bear scissors.

I had to move my chair at one point… I was getting too hot in the sun.

What to do today?!!
